Today we got a personal performance from ShaRhonda McCauley. ShaRonda is a hip hop artist, college graduate, and mom. She graduated from Jefferson and grew up in the area. She talked to us about the importance of fighting for your dreams. Also, she talked about practicing being super important to accomplishing life goals. She shared her published book full of poetry. We loved hearing her spoken word! Below is what we learned and quotes we will remember.

On Tuesday, we welcomed Jamaal Lane as a guest speaker. Jamaal opened his barbershop, Champions, in 2008. He talked to us about the legacy of barbershops for the African American community. He talked about the importance of black history being American history. Below is information we learned about him and quotes that resonated with us.
About: He is a barbershop owner. Jeremiah He is a barber. KK He likes his job. He has worked at his barbershop for 14 years. Kevin He opened his barbershop in 2008. Mycah He is my dad. Ms. Havens Today we had the honor of welcoming Ms. Nathan to our classroom. She is Gigi's Great Great Great Grandma. She was born in Oklahoma. Then she moved to Texas. Then to Chicago. Finally, to Portland in 1975. She lives in the same house in Portland that she moved into in 1975. Ms. Nathan holds a lot of experiences from the past and wants students to know how different it is now.

Curtis'e She was born in Oklahoma. Gigi Her family went to Boise-Eliot. Mexicans treated her right. Keymora Today we had the honor of welcoming Mr. Gregory Gudger as a guest speaker for our Black History month. Mr. Gudger is an attorney in Portland. When he first became an attorney in the state of Oregon, there were 12,500 attorneys and 20 of them were black. He was the first black clerk on the Oregon Supreme Court. Mr. Gudger is an Oregon Duck!
