Thank you to LaShawanda, Tiara, Mrs. Nathan, Yvette (PTA president), Tanisha, and Kim for participating in our conversation about how to teach Black History. As always, I am so positively impacted when I get the opportunity to listen. Your stories make me a better teacher and person. Below is the document we came up with together:

It feels good to be back at school! A new year is always a great time to reassess things. Here are a couple reminders for you and your student:
MATH FACTS My mom has committed to coming to volunteer every other Monday. She will be working with students on memorizing math facts. I've noticed in math work students are understanding concepts but are inaccurate in their answers because of computation. She will be using flashcards to test your child on timed math fact completion. We will be working through addition and subtraction before moving to multiplication. On our webpage under "student links" I have some math fact games they can do for practice. AFRICAN AMERICAN PARENT NIGHT I have all the material ready for the next African American Parent night. Lets shoot for Wednesday, January 27th at 6:30. Please, please, please RSVP to me by sending me a text. It is really important to get as many voices in the room as possible. This session we will be talking about teaching African American History in the classroom and conversations about race in the classroom. |
